WLC Hosts Woodstock Pollinator Pathway iNaturalist Event
The Woodstock Pollinator Pathway and WLC teamed up for an iNaturalist training In July, which was led by Lauren Borer of the Mohonk Preserve. We welcomed 14 attendees to the WLC’s office where they got a summary of the app’s benefits and how to use it before exploring a nearby trail for some hands-on experience uploading identification for creatures like the meadow fritillary butterfly.
iNaturalist is more than just a plant and pollinator identification tool. By uploading individual observations, users contribute valuable data to scientists who can use it in their studies. This information supports climate change monitoring and phenology research. (Phenology is the study of how plants change with the seasons.)
Woodstock Pollinator Pathway member Sarah Vogwill hopes the workshop sparked continued curiosity. She said the goal was to learn more about iNaturalist’s community science features, so that the Woodstock Pollinator Pathway team can help others to use it as well.
