11-acre hayfield on Zena Road (Zena).
Located across from the Zena Cornfield and placed under easement in 1989, this property extends open views and reflects the area’s agricultural history—it is still actively hayed today.
41 acres of mixed hardwood forest on Glasco Turnpike (Woodstock).
Placed under easement in 1990, this expanse of land protects wildlife habitat from future development pressures.
25 acres of hardwood forest on Plochmann Lane (Woodstock).
Placed under easement in 1992, this forest protects a spring-fed pond, wildlife habitat, and scenic views.
22 acres of open fields and farm buildings on Jessup Road (Willow).
This property, placed under easement in 1994, preserves wildlife habitat, scenic views, and the agricultural legacy of the area.
27 acres of rugged hardwoods on Cooper Lake Road (Bearsville).
This property was placed under easement in 1997 to protect a green area along the road and the fragile environment near Cooper Lake.
5-acre hayfield along Route 212 (Bearsville).
Placed under easement in 1997, this field protects open space, wildlife habitat, and a direct view of Overlook Mountain.
7 acres of mixed forest surrounding the Maverick Concert Hall (Hurley).
Placed under easement in 2000, these woods preserve the serenity and natural buffer surrounding a cultural landmark.
13 acres of rugged woodland at the top of Lewis Hollow Road (Daisy).
This area, placed under easement in 2005, protects fragile upland terrain.
Land purchases & donations (as of 2007, nine properties totaling 208 acres)
22-acre Zena Cornfield (Zena).
Located on Zena Road and Route 212, this was the first property ever protected by the WLC. Its acquisition in 1989 was made possible by hundreds of donations from Woodstock residents.
6-acre hayfield on Chestnut Hill Road (Woodstock).
First placed under easement and then given to WLC as an outright gift in 1995, this property has a direct view of Overlook Mountain.
110 acres of rugged mixed hardwood forest off Cooper Lake Road (Bearsville).
In 1996, WLC received a donation of this land, located near the summit of Johns Mountain. WLC later sold it to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection to ensure permanent protection of the City’s vital water resources, and then used the proceeds of the sale to purchase property on the pristine ridgeline of Mount Guardian (see below).
88 acres off West Saugerties Road (Woodstock-Saugerties).
Renowned Woodstock artist Allan Edward Sloan gave this unique property—containing mixed forest, old bluestone quarries, and unusual geological features—to WLC in 1998, just prior to his death. The land is a wildlife haven and reflects the area’s natural and industrial history. WLC opened the property to the public in summer 2007. Click here for more information and directions.
Forestland on Mount Guardian.
WLC’s protection of this scenic and ecological gem began in 2000 with the outright gift of two ridgeline parcels totaling 18 acres. WLC expanded the area of protected forestland on Guardian by purchasing 19 acres in 2003 and nearly 12 acres in 2005.
36 acres off Yerry Hill Road (Montoma).
WLC received this gift of land in 2004. Known locally as “Snake Rocks,” it is a blend of mixed forest, an old quarry pond, walking trails, and open views of the Wittenberg Valley.
7 acres off West Ohayo Mountain Road (Bearsville).
Given to WLC in 2006, this property features rugged woodland and extensive Sawkill River frontage.
