Scarecrow Fest 2011

has been cancelled due to bad weather forecasted for Saturday, October 1.

Please join us at the Woodstock Farm Festival on Maple Lane in Woodstock on October 5, 3:30 pm - 6 pm, for a mini-Scarecrow Fest & exhibition.

 What is Scarecrow Fest anyway?

Scarecrow Fest is WLC's and the Woodstock Farm Festival's answer to a Fall Festival, but with Scarecrows. Folks like yourself make and submit Scarecrows to be displayed on the day of the event, and then we'll celebrate the season with music, activities, food and...Scarecrows.

We've updated our schedule! Kristina and Shea from Fiber Flame will be joining us to make beautiful autumn collages, and Heather Longyear from Long-year Farm will also be crafting and storytelling. And that's just the new stuff!

There will be delicious food throughout the day courtesy of:

Cucina Restaurant

Fruition Chocolate

Leslie Catering

EATS Food Truck

Winners of the Scarecrow contest will be announced at 1 pm!

Farm Olympics starts at 1:30 pm with events:

Speed Scarecrow - teams of two compete to make a Scarecrow the fast

3-legged race

Pumpkin Relay

Scarecrow dress-up relay - Two teams of four compete to dress and undress as a Scarecrow

Welly Waning - that would be a rain boot toss - it's harder than it sounds!

Egg on a spoon race

Make a day of it in Woodstock and join our friends at the Byrdcliffe Guild for their Cornutopia celebration!

The event is going to be really fun. We hope you can come. But first, you should make a Scarecrow!

Now, we know you're the creative type but maybe, just maybe, you've never made a Scarecrow? Never fear. First, we're going to be having a Scarecrow making demonstration at the Woodstock Farm Festival on Wednesday, September 7 at 5:30 pm.

Or, check out this quick tutorial. Or, what about this one? It's easy as well.

And to get the creative juices going, some examples from around the world!

And for the straw and other essentials, try:

*Al Ostrander (hay & straw), Ostrander Road in Willow, NY

*Eric Rothe (hay & straw), Route 212 between Saugerties & Woodstock

*Zaborski's Emporium, Hoffman Street, Kingston NY

*New Paltz Reuse Center, Clearwater Road, New Paltz NY

*Salvation Army, Kingston New York

We can't wait to see what you create - but don't forget to tell us beforehand...check out the Scarecrow Fest entry form for more info!
